Kanchenjunga trekking is one another most thrilling trekking destination in Nepal. This sort of trekking trail is hardly found anywhere in the world. It is one of the unspoiled trekking trails in eastern part of Nepal. It was open in 1988 for trekkers. Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m) is the world’s third highest mountain, offers a variety of landscapes, cultures and panoramic views of the Himalayas including the Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga itself, the four of the worlds five highest mountains. Therefore trekking in this route makes the trek rewarding. Mt. Kanchenjunga lies on the border of Nepal and Sikkim (India). Kanchanjunga area is the inhabitant of Sherpas ethnic groups who are rich in culture and tradition. Rais, Chhetris, Brahmans are other ethnic groups in this region. Monasteries, Chhortens, temples, prayer walls are the representation of this area. Following the trekking route, blue sheep are mostly found here and it is also believed that the abominable snowman ‘YETI’ exists in the region. With this all the features, Kanchenjunga trekking has been the most popular trekking among the foreigners and one of the most demanded trekking package among the clients of Alliance Adventure. The region is protected by the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP), which spread in an area of 2,035 sq. km. It is a rich diversity of wildlife including snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer red panda and others varies species of birds including Amphibian, pheasant, red-billed blue among others.

The trekking in the area begins from Suketar Taplejung, which is accessible by air, or from Basantapur which is accessible by road. The route passes through the lush of rhododendron forests and climbs on the high alpine terrain beyond the village of Ghunsa. Throughout the route, you will have a chance to see the astounding sceneries of Kanchenjunga. Subsequently, we head to Lapsung La pass, Selele pass, and trek on the Yalung Glacier and finally, you will reach Kanchenjunga base camp. Subsequently, exploring the area, you return back to Taplejung and subsequently to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

Arrive in Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft) and transfer to Hotel then Alliance Adventure Pvt. Ltd will brief about your trip Kanchenjunga. Overnight at Hotel – Included Breakfast & Dinner

Day 02: Sightseeing and Pre-Paration your Trekking

Half Day Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley and preparation of your Trek: Alliance Adventure Tour Guide explores the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu’s Landmarks that are considered World Heritage Sites; including the historic Durbar Square, the houses of living Hindu goddess and “Kumari House’’. Swayambhunath; stands top of the hilltop and west the of city, people mostly knows as “Monkey Temple”. This has been registered in UNESCO heritage side. Overnight at Hotel – Included Breakfast

Day 03: Flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar

Flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar 35 minutes then check in Lodge. The guide comes to pick-up you in the Hotel and drives to Kathmandu Domestic airport for the flight to Biratnagar, check into the Lodge and explore the local market. Biratnagar is very close to the border of India as Darjeeling in Sikkim. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 04: Flight from Biratnagar to Suketar Trek to Lali Kharka

Flight from Biratnagar to Suketar (2,700m/8,856ft) 30 minutes then Trek to Lali Kharka (2,220m/7,281ft) 3 to 4 hours.  Early in the morning flight takes you north of air-trip to Suketar, which is your trekking starting point as you meet your potters. The trek through along the rhododendron forest, it will gradually descend toward to Lali  Kharka. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 05: Trek to Sinchewa Bhanjyang

Trek from Lali Kharka to Sinchewa Bhanjyang (2,240m/7,347ft) 5 to 6 hours. The trails leading to Tembewe before slogging up to ridge as dropping steeply to Pokora villages then walk down to cross suspension bridge over the Phawa Khola and steeply climb up east of valley Limbu village Kunjari. The trek make long looping travelers ridge to the Bhanjyang, from here you can see views of Kbru Peaks border of Kanchenjunga. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 06: Trek to Phumphe

Trek from Sinchewa Bhanjyang to Phumphe (1,780m/5,838ft) 6 to 7 hours. After breakfast trek through terraced fields, several hamlets high above the Kabeli Khola and enters forest, pass by high waterfall and cross the Khesewa Khola before climbing eastwards to Phumphe. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 07: Trek to Yamphudin

Trek from Phumphe to Yamphudin (1,690m/5,543ft) 5 to 6  hours. the trail following rivers, pass by remote hamlets inhabited by friendly Rais and Limbus and finally toward to knife-edge ridge before you arrive Yamphudin valley with river views. The large prosperous agricultural village is higher up the hill, note that last substantial village before Ghunsa seven days away and it will be check point of trekking permit of Kanchenjunga Conservation area. Day 08: Trek to Amji Khola

Trek from Yamphudin to Amji Khola (2,340m/7,675ft) 6 to 7 hours. After crossing the east of Riverside and ascend steeply leading dense forest crest to the Dhupi Bhanjyang (2,540m), east of all Numerous Peaks over (4,000m) line of a border with Sikkim and walk down from the summit to Amji Khola. Day 09: Trek to Tortong

Trek from Amji Khola to Tortong (2,990m/9,807ft) 5 to 6 hours. The trek begins to cross the river and steep through dense forest to the Deurali Danda at Lamite Bhanjyang (3,310m). After this, the route is a bit difficult to walk through fallen trees and rocks on the edge of a devastating landslide to the west and then a pleasant path through a forest of Simbuwa Khola by Yarlung Glacier, continues toward by crossing bridge it just below the village of Tortong. Day 10: Trek to Tseram

Trek from Tortong to Tseram (3,870m/12,693ft) 5 hours. The trail leads to river views of steadily climbs through Pine and Rhododendron forest to Tseram. Here is summer pasture settlement and this is trekking trails of five passes trail to Ghunsa. In this area, they will open the lodges on trekking season. From here we can see good views of Yalung Glacier moraine, Rathong, and Kabru Peaks. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 11: Trek to Ramche

Trek from Tseram to Ramche (4,620m/15,153ft) 3 hours. The trail gently above the tree line, passing alpine Yak Kharka, old mani wall of the Dachenrol monastery before ascending snout of Yarlung glacier through series of ablation valley by retreating ice. Stone Yak pens indicate Yarlung Bara, where a trail leads west to join main way to Ghunsa. Further on, Lapsang (4,430m) site of the frozen lake. Shortly enters to the broad flat valley of Ramche. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 12: Trek to Chukkung Pokhari

Trek from Ramche to Chukkung Pokhari (4,450m/14,596ft) 5 to 6 hours. Today you will gently walk through valley around a sweeping curve before climbing to moraine, along the trek chorten has been erected ideal site for the spectacular views South face of Kanchenjunga which is entire skyline and south of the site is main summit (8,586m/28,162ft). The steps through to Yarlung Bara and head west for the final steps climb to the small lake. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 13: Trek to Ghunsa

Trek from Chukkung Pokhari to Ghunsa (3,595m/11,791ft) via Sinelapche La (4,724m/15,495ft), Mirgin La (4,663m/15,295ft), Sinion La (4,660m/15,284ft), Selele La (4,115m/13,497ft) and Tamo La (3,900m/12,792ft) 7 to 8 hours. Today is the longest day of trekking and more hardest day because several of passes and track is covered by snow. The walking is not easy because altitude and snow conditions make difficult to the track, but the views are excellent to the north and south from the high ground. There are two small huts before Selele La pass and before descending toward to the Tamo La and trail walk down through by forest to the Ghunsa village. Day 14: Rest and Acclimatization

Rest and Acclimatization in Ghunsa: After Breakfast explores the village of Gunsa, is attractive Tibetan village with homesteads spaced in wood-enclosed fields and offering snow-clad peaks. You can visit the monastery (belonging to the Khampa Dzong monastery of Tibet) in middle of a village, along with the walking you can see local peoples making a Tibetan carpets. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 15: Trek to Kambachen

Trek from Ghunsa to Kambachen (4,150m/13,612ft) 4 hours. The trail will be following north of Ghunsa which leads glorious larch and juniper forest east of Ghunsa Khola after crossing a sandy, boulder-strewn floodplain it crosses the river over rickety wood and stone bridge before climbing west of rambuk Kharka. The hillsides become increasingly barren as the trail rise path a high waterfall falls along a narrow track. Further, climb up steeply landslide before passing the impressive snout of Khumbakarna glacier opposite side of the valley then walk through briefly into the Kambachen. From here several great views of Peaks of Jannu (7,710m). Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 16: Trek to Lhonak

Trek from Kambachen to Lhonak (4,790m/15,711ft) 5 hours.  The trail leads through the landscape of increasingly desolate, forged over eons by ice glacier. The path is not strenuous but for the negotiates the stony river bed before reaching summer-pastoral huts in Ramtang and beyond the snout of the Kanchenjunga glacier which is joined to the Ramtang glacier. Climb up the tony path over the moraine then drops to riverbed of Ghunsa Khola as leaves the Lhonak glacier to the north. There are 3 small building some of the very old stone walls among boulders that can assist with tent-shelter from the icy winds. Tent peak is prominent on the eastern horizon. Day 17: Trek to Pang Pema Base Camp

Trek from Lhonak to Pang Pema Base Camp (5,160m/16,924ft) 3 hours. Walking through Kanchenjunga glacier of eastwards for several kilometers before turning south to rise its extensive head to the northern slopes of Kanchenjunga. The trekking follows the lip on glacier over short grasses or rocky tracks that undulate with the terrain. Pang Pema opposite head of glacier and offering panorama view of the vast north face of the mountain. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 18: Rest and Exploration Base Camp

Rest and Exploration in Pang Pema Base Camp: This is your unforgettable adventure in your life from the Base Camp rank among the spectacular views in the world and from the Kanchenjunga unbroken wall of peaks, where is less than a 6,100m/20,008ft border with Sikkim and to the north is Tibet. The west Langpo glacier flows into the Kanchenjunga glacier which is difficulty route to the north leads over the Jansang La into the Tibet. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 19: Trek to Kambachen

Trek from Pang Pema BC to Kambachen (4,150m/13,612ft) 6 hours. After this, you turn back your adventure along the same way back to Kambachen. Walking down and greatly enjoy the views. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 20: Trek to Phale

Trek from Kambachen to Phale (3,140m/10,299ft) via Ghunsa 6 to 7 hours. Your are walking down to Ghunsa same way as before and cross the river below village then continues trek through Ghunsa Khola, farmland and Tibetan summer grazing village. After check into the Lodge and visit to wooden Gompa. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 21: Trek to Amjilosa

Trek from Phale to Amjilosa (2,140m/7,019ft) 6 to 7 hours. The trail leading rhododendron forest, conifer, birch and oat continues through down to valley and cross numerous of tributaries to the last Tibetan villages in Gyabla. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 22: Trek to Chirwa

Trek from Amjilosa to Chirwa (1,190/3,903ft) 5 to 6 hours. After breakfast trek leads fairly steeply to Sekathum which join Ghunsa Khola and Tamur Khola. The path follows western bank of Tamur Khola then cross a suspension bridge over the Simbuwa Khola that flows into the Yarlung glacier through Tortong. Along the walk cheerful cluster village of Chirwa which huddles among huge boulders. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 23: Trek to Linkhim

Trek from Chirwa to Linkhim (1,520m/4,985ft) 5 to 6 hours. Today you are following the trail east bank of Tamur Khola to the hamlet at Thiwa (exit point of KCA). During the trek climb up above the houses of Tawa, over a ridge before droping to canyon to cross Tawa Khola. It passes above the hamlet of Malbanse before reaching in Linkhim. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 24: Trek to Suketar

Trek from Linkhim to Suketar (2,700m/8,856ft) 5 to 6 hours. Today is your last day of your trekking in Himalaya. The trail will lead you to Limbu villages to Phurumbu, overlooking a vast landslide before Jogidanda then through into the Sherpa villages of Bung Kulung and Bhote Gaun toward to the tiny airstrip in Suketar and check in Lodge then celebration your trekking with your teams of Guide Potters. Overnight at Lodge – Included Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 25: Flight from Suketar to Biratnagar to Kathmandu.

Flight from Suketar to Biratnagar to Kathmandu: Today early morning you are taking short scenic over the Himalaya flight to Biratnagar then connecting to fly back to Kathmandu. Alliance Adventure staff will come to pick-up you Kathmandu domestic airport than transfer to Hotel rest and free. Overnight at Hotel – Included Breakfast

Day 26: Sightseeing and Farewell Dinner

Half day Sightseeing in World Heritage site and Farewell Nepali culture Dinner: Alliance Adventure Tour Guide will explore to history’s of Buddhanath Stupa is one of the largest Stupa in the Asia and number of monasteries and many Tibetan artifacts selling shops. Day 27: Departure your Destination

Departure to Tribhuvan International Airport. Today is last minutes shopping packing and Alliance Adventure takes you to the airport for your onward destination to your country.

  • Thermal undergarments this is for the night which might be a bit cold, otherwise, tracksuit should suffice.
