Bardiya National Park, established in 1988, is located in the north-west of Nepalgunj adjoining the eastern bank of the Karnali River and bisected by the Babai River in the Bardiya District. This Park is established to protect the threatened ecosystems and to conserve the endangered species of floras and faunas. About 70% of the park is covered with forest, with the balance a mixture of grassland, savannah, and riverine forest. It has a greater range of habitats compared to Chitwan National Park. Lush dense forests is a homeland to various endangered animals Such as gharial crocodile, marsh mugger, One-horned rhinoceros, swamp deer, black buck, Sarus Crane, Bengal tiger, Gangetic Dolphin and many others.
